Early Life/Biography
Rodarius Marcell Green was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on August 27, 1999. His parents divorced sometime during elementary school. His father was still present in his life, even though he grew up primarily with his mother.
Rod Wave’s father, a street hustler, made sure he was fed and clothed properly. Money was not an issue, as stated in an interview. Rod Wave’s life changed dramatically before middle school when his father was imprisoned.
All of the opulence he once enjoyed had vanished. His uncle stepped in after his father was sentenced to six years in prison. He, too, would be imprisoned a year later. Rod Wave was then surrounded by female figures and engaged in street activities.
He started selling drugs, breaking into cars, robbing houses, and performing other daring acts. As one might expect, the authorities arrived.
He was arrested several times while in and out of juvenile facilities on charges ranging from armed robbery to carrying a concealed weapon.
Rod Wave began turning his life around after his father was released and lectured by other OGs. He graduated from high school and is now pursuing a music career. He began singing when he was in fifth grade. He credited his brother with motivating him to sing.
Career
Rod Wave began singing at a young age, but it wasn’t until later that he began recording. A colleague of his uploaded his first tracks. He realized he was onto something when they started turning heads. His music indeed came to life in 2016.
Heartbreak Hotel, his breakthrough single, was released in the fourth quarter. It performed admirably for a newcomer. The official song and music video have over 2.7 million streams on YouTube, with a 95% approval rating.
It has received over 2.5 million plays on SoundCloud. “Think Too Much,” “Gambling,” and “Hunger Games” were also notable 2016 tracks. “Hunger Games” was also the title of his debut mixtape, released in December 2016.
Tayda’s breakout single was the highlight of the 16-track mix, which featured only one artist. His bookings increased in tandem with his popularity.
Rod Wave’s next project, Rookie of the Year, was released in 2017. The project, which was released in June, included eight tracks. “50 Shades of Grey,” “Jumanji,” and “Pull Up” were standout singles. The tape has received much attention on iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube.
The most successful year of Rod Wave’s career was 2018. He released heat-seekers and hot mixtapes, collaborated with a slew of new artists, and now has a record deal with Alamo Records.
At least nine of his newly released tracks will have surpassed a million streams in 2018. His most famous song, “Bag” ft. GlokkNine, “Hearts 4 Sale,” and “Feel The Same Way” ft. Moneybagg Yo has collectively received over 9 million streams.
With success, Rod Wave also released the second and third installments of his “Hunger Games” mixtape. They arrived in May and June of this year, respectively.
On “Declare War,” he collaborated with 438 Tok; on “All We Know,” he collaborated with LPB Poody. The majority of his visuals are now exclusively featured on WSHH. His most recent singles, “Hard Times” and “Red Light,” have done quite well.
Rod Wave released two projects in 2019: “PTSD” and “Ghetto Gospel,” released in June and November, respectively. His first album, a 12-song collection, featured only one artist, E-40.
It was led by the dynamic track “Heart On Ice.” The single track would be streamed over 30 million times in the first five months. It has high ratings on Spotify and Apple Music.
“Ghetto Gospel” landed on November 1, 2019. A 14-track masterpiece featured some of Rod Wave’s most prolific work. Guest appearances included Kevin Gates on “Cuban Links” and “Titanic” and Lil Durk on “Heart on Ice” (remix).
Various hit tracks led the album, including “Sky Priority,” “Close Enough to Hurt,” “Green Light,” “Poison,” and “Cuban Links.” Within just two weeks, every track on the album has witnessed one million-plus individual streams.
With “Ghetto Gospel” going ballistic, Rod Wave has repeatedly proven that his talent holds no boundaries.
