Early Life/Biography

Richard Paul Evans was born on October 11, 1962; according to him, his early life was not so good, even mentioned in some of his works.

He clearly says that when his father lost his job and had to move to Pocatello for teaching, there were eight children in total, and they all moved to California from Salt Lake the place they shifted to was in a horrific state as it was beside the pawnshop and strip clubs.

Richard launched The Christmas Box International, an organization dedicated to the upkeep of emergency children’s shelters and providing services and resources to abused, neglected, or homeless children, teens, and young adults.

Richard has received the Washington Times Humanitarian of the Century Award and the Volunteers of America National Empathy Award for his humanitarian activities.

He distributed it to bookstores in his neighborhood. Evans published the book in this region after becoming a local bestseller.

The following year, The Christmas Box debuted at number two on the New York Times bestseller list, sparking a bidding war among the world’s major publishing firms for the publishing rights. Evans signed a publication contract with Simon & Schuster, who paid him an advance of $4.2 million.

When it was first published in hardback in 1995, The Christmas Box became the first book to hold the number one spot on the New York Times bestseller list at the same time.

The book was adapted into a television film of the same name the same year, starring Richard Thomas and Maureen O’Hara.

Evans has since written 36 nationally best-selling books with conservative Christian themes and family values, including some for children.

Timepiece (1996), starring Naomi Watts, James Earl Jones, and Ellen Burstyn, was adapted into a television film, as was The Locket (1998), starring Vanessa Redgrave; A Perfect Day (2006), starring Rob Lowe and Christopher Lloyd; The Mistletoe Promise (2016), starring Jaime King and Luke Macfarlane; and The Mistletoe Inn (2017), starring Alicia Witt and David Alpay.

Evans launched Christmas Box House International in 1997, a nonprofit dedicated to creating shelters and providing services for abandoned and neglected children. Christmas Box House facilities had served almost 35,000 children as of 2017.

Evans is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife Keri, five children, and one grandson.

He formed the “Tribe of Kyngs” to counteract male isolation and the perception that “masculinity is no longer appreciated.” A crowning ceremony is part of the group’s initiation.
