Lisa Scottoline (born July 1, 1955) is a legal thriller author from the United States. Scottoline was born in Philadelphia and received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
She later worked as a litigator at a Philadelphia legal company. She left the law business after her daughter’s birth and began writing to supplement her income at home.
Her books have sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
Her Rosato and Dinunzio Novel Series books have become highly successful, and they’d been on the bestseller list of the New York Times for weeks. Her career is still going strong, and her popularity is growing.
Education, School & College
Lisa Scottoline earned her magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in three years, in 1976.
Her B.A. degree was in English with a focus on the Contemporary American Novel, and she had instructors like National Book Award winner Philip Roth as her professors.
After graduating with honors, Lisa subsequently went to the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she worked as an Associate Editor for the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.
Career
As a Lawyer
Lisa started her legal profession as a law clerk for Pennsylvania Superior Court President Judge Edmund B. Spaeth, Jr. She became an associate at Dechert, Price & Rhoads in Philadelphia after her clerkship concluded.
She quit the company in 1986 to care for her newborn baby and started writing legal fiction on the side.
With the release of her debut novel in 1994, Scottoline re-entered the legal field as an administrative law clerk to Chief Judge Dolores K. Sloviter of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit while also establishing a new profession as a fiction author.
As an Author
Lisa’s first novel, Everywhere That Mary Went, was released by HarperCollins Publishers in 1994, launching her career as a writer.
The story was a bestseller, and the Mystery Writers of America considered it for the Edgar Prize, the most prestigious title in crime novels.
Final Appeal, Lisa’s second novel, was also nominated for and won an Edgar Award.
Since then, she’s published 32 books, making bestseller lists in publications such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, and Publisher’s Weekly.
