Early Life and Family
Kathy Reichs was born in 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States of America. During those years, her father worked as a meatpacking company manager, and her mother was a homemaker who used to host her book-club radio show.
Her family supported her in exploring her interest in science. Kathy was so talented that she wrote her book at only nine.
Education

In 1971, she earned her degree with a major in anthropology. A year later, she completed her Master of Arts in physical anthropology from Northwestern University, and in 1975, she earned her Ph.D. degree in physical anthropology while raising her three children. Since graduating from Northwestern University, she has taught at several universities, including Northern Illinois University, the University of Pittsburgh, Concordia University, and McGill University.
