Being born to a musician father, Ricky Hyslop, Jane Richmond Hyslop inherited her father’s musical interests and grew up in a mixed classical and pop culture.
That influence is seen in her freestyle music. Jane joined the Canadian Opera Company’s children’s chorus in her youth. She did several musical jobs as an organ player in churches, piano bars, and commercial jingles.
She also joined a touring band and played as a synthesizer and singer in the shows. Jane Child first relocated to New York and then to Los Angeles, where she signed with a label to cut a demo tape.
But Jane was adamant about producing her music. After much struggle, she left the label and settled with Warner Bros. on her terms. Her debut album “Jane Child” earned her the title of “the female Prince.”
