Early Life and Family
Colleen was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on December 11, 1979, as the daughter of Vannoy Fite and Eddie Fennell. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Saltillo, Texas. She graduated from her high school, Saltillo High School in 1998.
Just 2 years after that she got married to Heath Hoover. Colleen graduated with a degree in Social work from her college, Texas A&M-Commerce. After graduating, she did so much social work along with teaching jobs.
But then she heard a line in a song by Avett Brothers, that line was “decide what to be and go be it“, that song was “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise.” That is the reason she referred to the lyrics of Avett Brothers songs throughout the story of her first novel.
So, she started her first novel in November 2011 but she had no intention or idea that she would publish it publicly in the future, that novel’s name was “Slammed”.
She ended up publishing “Slammed” in 2012 and Maryse Black reviewed that book and gave it 5 stars, that’s why the sales of her first two books took off rapidly.
After the initial boost of her writing career, she carried on writing more and more novels and today she has successfully written 24 novels and 3 short stories. Some of her most notable books are “Slammed”, “Hopeless”, “Maybe Someday”, “Ugly Love”, and “It Ends with Us”.
Education
Colleen was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas but raised in Saltillo, Texas. So, she had to complete her middle school and high school from Saltillo, in Saltillo High School. She graduated from high school in 1998.
She graduated and got a degree in Social Work from Texas A&M University-Commerce. During that time she also got married. After that, she got involved in social work, teaching jobs, and her writing career so she didn’t pursue any other degree.
Colleen Hoover’s Career
Hoover started writing a novel in 2011 after being motivated by a song by the Avett Brothers; that song was “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise.”. Because Avett Brothers gave her the motivation to write this novel as a sign of respect, she incorporated the lyrics of the Avett Brothers several times in her book.
“Slammed”, which was her first book, was reviewed by Maryse Black and received 5 stars. After that, the sales of her first and second books increased tremendously.
After some time, Hoover shared that she published her first book, “Slammed”, so that her grandmother who had recently bought an Amazon Kindle could read the book. After the success of that book, she decided to quit her job and continue in this field.
Her next book, “Hopeless” was self-published, and became the first self-published novel to top the New York Times Best Seller list. It remained in the #1 position for 3 weeks. That book was about a girl who has been homeschooled her entire life before finally being admitted to a public school.
A companion novel, Losing Hope, was later published in July. Finding Cinderella was a free novella that was released in 2014 by Hoover Colleen. It had many common characteristics to Hopeless and Losing Hope.
A paperback to that was released with additional things like a new epilogue and Hoover’s own “Cinderella Story”.
In 2016, Hoover published the novel “It Ends With Us”. That novel was written to raise awareness for domestic violence victims. That novel’s story was about her mother and father and their trembling relationship.
She stated that “It Ends With Us” was the hardest novel she had ever written. She also wrote and published a lot more between the time period of Slammed and It Ends With Us such as Maybe Someday which was published in 2014.
There also was “Never Never” which was in a collaboration with Tarryn Fisher. It had three parts which were first sold individually but later combined as one single book.
