Education

Tom King graduated from Columbia University in 2000. He took history and philosophy at the University. However, the details of his schooling are still not known.

Tom King’s Career

Tom King, in his early years around the 1990s, worked as an intern at Marvel comics and DC comics. Before he began his writing career, he worked as an officer in the CIA for around seven years.

He quit his job and started his career as a writer with his debut novel, “A Once Crowded Sky.” This was published by Touchstone on 10 July 2012. He is also a member of the “Comic Book Artist.”

Tom King has co-written Grayson since he was selected to do so in 2014 along with Mikel Janin and Tim Seeley. His background with the CIA came in handy, and King added additional details to authenticate the series, which was plotted by both of them together.

The Omega Men, which was created back in 1981, was again relaunched by the publisher with artists Barnaby Bagenda and King in June 2015.

His nine-panel grid was praised by the reviewers. With art by Mitch Gerads, Tom King worked on a project named “The Sheriff of Baghdad.” This was revealed by Vertigo at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, considering it was a new creator-owned project.

Crime series in the vein of Vertigo, titles like Preacher and Scalped, were written through his inspirations or takings from his experience in Iraq while he worked in the CIA.

This was praised as well as criticized since, for some readers, it felt too personal as a type of storytelling. There were also reviews that praised the intriguing and captivating personalities of the characters written.

After this, DC comics had to cancel Tom King’s work in 2015. All five titles were canceled in the series, which resulted in negative feedback from fans that subsequently forced the DC to bring The Omega back again and claimed it was a hasty decision.

In February 2016, Tom King signed a deal with the DC comics publisher. He worked on the Vision and finished the storyline which was initially plotted by him.

Replacing the long-time writer Scott Synder in the main bi-weekly Batman series, King wrote it in June 2016. This was announced by DC in March. Mitch Gerads, along with King August 2017, started the Mister Miracle series’ first issue.

There were a total of twelve issues planned out. A series centered around Batman, “Heroes in Crisis“, was written by Tom King. This was announced by DC comics in 2018. It was in this year, in the month of July, when he received the Eisner Award along with Marjorie Liu.

He also worked in the Black and White anthology series in September 2020.  He focused more on the psychological aspects of the Superheroes. So, from 2021 to 2022, King worked on Supergirl: Woman of tomorrow.
