Early Life/Biography
Jake Kiszka was born in Frankenmuth, Michigan, on April 23, 1996, in the USA. Jacob Kiszka is another name for him.
Jake, born into a musical family, began playing with his father’s musical instruments at the age of three and began playing guitar at the age of six. He continued to improve his guitar skills and, at the age of 16, formed the Greta Van Fleet band.
Jake Kiszka, the band’s guitarist, enjoys hammering out crunchy riffs to set the tone for retro ambient music. Greta Van Fleet, his band, is inspired and influenced by Led Zeppelin, and these Michigan kids are reclaiming the music of the 1970s.
Jake also provides backing vocals for the band. With “Highway Tune,” he and the band made their musical debut, reaching the top 10 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. Jake has performed at the Louder Than Life festival with Ozzy Osbourne.

The original guitar riff for “Highway Tune,” which guitarist Jake Kiszka claimed was written in 2010, was re-released as a single in March 2017. A live EP was recorded in one take on February 28, 2014, and was released on June 7, 2014.
Black Smoke Rising and From the Fires (2016–2017)
The song “Highway Tune” was featured as a live performance by the Jake band on the Showtime show Shameless on January 17, 2016. The final recorded version of “Highway Tune” was released on iTunes as the band’s first official single on March 31, 2017.
The song “Highway Tune” became available for streaming on iTunes on April 2, 2017. The music video for “Highway Tune” was released exclusively on Loudwire on April 18, 2017.
On April 21, 2017, the band’s debut EP, Black Smoke Rising, was released. Greta Van Fleet was named Apple Music’s new artist of the week on April 21, 2017. In May 2017, the band went on tour with The Struts.
Jake’s band won Best New Artist at the Loudwire Music Awards in October 2017. From the Fires includes new recordings “Edge of Darkness” and “Talk on the Street,” as well as covers of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” and Fairport Convention’s “Meet on the Ledge” in addition to the four tracks from Black Smoke Rising.
The four new songs were recorded at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak, Michigan, in September 2017 and produced by Al Sutton and Marlon Young, the same duo who worked on Black Smoke Rising. In addition, the band released “Safari Song” as a single in October 2017.
Peaceful Army Anthem (2018–2019)
On March 4, 2018, Jake Kiszka’s band performed at Elton John’s Academy Award Party at the host’s request. John shared the stage with Greta Van Fleet for his “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” and their “You’re the One.”
Following the performance, Elton John advised the band to become more dramatic and flamboyant in their performance and wardrobe.
The band made their television debut on The Tonight Show, starring Jimmy Fallon on July 26, performing “When The Curtain Falls,” the first single from their upcoming debut album.
Their debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, was released on October 19, 2018. According to Josh Kiszka, the album’s title, “Anthem of the Peaceful Army,” was inspired by the title of a poem.
It was the best-selling album in its first week in the United States, selling 80,000 copies. When album-equivalent units were taken into account, it debuted at number three on the Billboard 200.
The Battle of Garden’s Gate (from 2020 to the present)
Jake Kiszka’s band released a new single, “My Way, Soon,” on October 9, 2020, accompanied by a music video shot, edited, and directed by the band.
The song was set to appear on their upcoming second album, which, according to Wagner, was inspired by the band’s previous two years of touring and how it opened their eyes: “We realized that while growing up, we had been shielded by a lot of things, we were unaware of a lot of things.”
The band announced their second studio album, The Battle at Garden’s Gate, on December 4, 2020. Along with the announcement, a single titled “Age of Machine” was released. On April 16, 2021, the album was released.
