Early Life/Biography
Henry was born and reared in Yulee, Florida, and with the Yulee Hornets, he established the national high school football record for career running yards.
He participated in the 2015 Alabama Crimson Tide football team that won the 2016 College Football tournament National Championship, breaking Herschel Walker’s single-season college touchdowns yards record in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
He was also a vital member of the 2015 Alabama Crimson Tide football squad that won the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship.

The Titans picked Henry in the 2nd round of the 2016 NFL Draft. For the 2019 season, he topped the NFL in rushing yards and touchdown passes (tied with Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones).
Henry would lead the league in running yards and touchdowns again in 2020, becoming only the eighth player in NFL history to carry for more than 2,000 yards in a single season and only the second Tennessee Titan to do it.
Family
Derrick Lamar Henry Jr was born on January 4, 1994, in Yulee, Florida, a suburb of Jacksonville, to Derrick Henry Sr. (Father) and Stacy Veal (Mother).
Gladys, his grandma, was primarily responsible for his upbringing. They have an extremely close bond.
Henry’s father, known as “Big D,” was missing for most of Henry’s upbringing because he had been jailed 20 times for different offenses, including drug and prostitution-related charges, and as a result, had been in and out of prison and struggled to find work.
His mother worked as a hemodialysis technician. Henry was mainly nurtured by his grandmother, Gladys, who gave him the moniker “Shocka” since his birth surprised the entire family due to his parents’ young ages.
Education
He graduated from Yulee High School, a three-sport athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and track.
The Yulee Hornets’ football club used him as a running back. As a freshman in 2009, he scored for 2,465 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Later, he enrolled in Alabama College. From 2013 to 2015, Henry was a member of the University of Alabama football team, where he played collegiate football.
Henry promised his grandma Gladys and graduated from Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in communications on May 4, 2018.
On the same day, he wrote a piece for The Players’ Tribune in which he thanked his late grandmother for inspiring him to pursue his degree.
Career
Derrick Henry may have lost his major role in an NFL offense that wasn’t designed for him. Fortunately for his future, a phone call to a much-needed mentor opened the door to changing his path, but a lot would have to happen before he ever considered picking up the phone.
Throughout his career, Derrick Henry was renowned as a beast of a running back. In the Titans’ season-opening defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, he made his NFL debut and earned his first NFL start.

After that, he has 1059 running yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, and 15 catches for the 2018 season. Derrick Henry is ranked 99th among the NFL’s Top 100 Players for 2019.
